The Brazos Valley Renegades 18-U Maroon team will play Sunday for the AAU National Championship at the new Jet Blue Stadium, home of the Boston Red Sox training facility, in Ft. Myers, Florida. The Renegades knocked off Tuscaloosa Baseball team Saturday morning with a 3-2 win in the semi-finals. Renegades got a two out walk off hit by Alec Paradowski in the bottom of the 7th inning to win and advance to the Championship game.
The Renegades will play Tallahassee Baseball Club for the championship. This will be the 3rd consecutive year that Tallahassee and the BV Renegades have met in the championship game. The Renegades won the title in 2010 and Tallahassee won it all in 2011. The 18-U team is 6-0 in the tournament and defeated Tallahassee Baseball earlier this week in the first round of championship play 6-0.
The 16-U Maroon team National Championship run fell short with a loss Saturday to the New Jersey Tigers 8-3. The Tigers also gave the Renegades their other loss in the first round of pool play. The 16-U Renegades finished the tournament with a 7-2 record. After an opening loss they ran off seven consecutive wins before the loss on Saturday in the semi-finals. They finished 4th in the tournament.
The Brazos Valley Renegades 16-U and 18-U teams made a strong showing at the national championship tournament by winning 13 of the 15 games they have played.
The 18-U Maroon will be trying to bring home their second national championship in three years.
