MONTGOMERY, Texas -- The College Station Cougars defeated the Montgomery Lady Bears 2-0 Friday night in Montgomery.
Both teams squandered several opportunities in the first half. Cougar defender Haley Wagner saved a goal in the first half when she blocked a shot headed towards an open goal. Fifteen minutes into the second half Jaylen Hinckley found Kinsey Rhome with a nice pass that put her through to goal. Rhome beat the Bear goal keeper low to the right for the first Cougar goal.
With three minutes left in the match Maddie Kothmann got on a loose ball at the top of the 18 and and beat the Montgomery goal keeper for the final Cougar goal. The Cougs recorded their 8th shutout of the season with strong play from goalkeeper Christina Hendershot and defenders Haley Wagner, JJ Handy, Megan Barrett, and Maddie Jenkins.
The Cougs finish non-district with a record of 9-5-1. The Cougars will open district play when they travel to Navasota to play the rattlers at 5:00, with the boys following at 7pm.
