Traditional phone booths are disappearing across the country and people in Henderson, North Carolina spoke out on Wednesday (7/28) about the technological change.
The introduction of cell phones has made phone booths almost obsolete, because not many people find them useful when they can carry a phone with them. The booth that was found in Henderson may seem abandoned, but it still handles at least 75 calls a month. Calls made from phone booths have gone up in cost tremendously. What used to cost a dime now costs the caller 50 cents for a local call.
Sprint, which owns the phone booth in Henderson, says it has fewer than a hundred booths in the state.
