KBTX Debuts Pump Patrol: Highs and Lows in Local Gas Prices

Updated: Thu 11:41 AM, Oct 02, 2008

For the last two months, we've been telling you about the wide ranging gas prices in the Brazos Valley. As many of you know, we seem to be feeling the pain at the pump more than people outside our area.

That's why KBTX is now on "Pump Patrol." Wednesday, we hit the streets to find the cheapest and most expensive gas in Bryan-College Station. Believe it or not, the cheapest gas we found was on East 29th Street, right next to the station.

The Diamond Shamrock has gas at $3.42 a gallon and if you go around town you'll find some surprising discrepancies.

On Hwy 6 and Hwy 21, you'll find a Texaco and Exxon right across the street from one another, the Texaco has gas at $3.49 a gallon, the Exxon has it at $3.63.

On Highway 6 and Bonneville Road, the Kroger and Shell stations have only a three cent difference between the two.

State wide, the cheapest gas we could find was just an hour away in North Houston at $3.19 a gallon.

The most expensive gas we could find in the area was at the Exxon at Texas and University. At $3.69 a gallon it is by far the most expensive in the area, but if you shop around you can find gas for a quarter cheaper!

Shane McAuliffe's Pump Patrol can't be everywhere at once, so here's how you can help the fight to find lower gas prices.

Send us an email at pumppatrol@kbtx.com, or send us a picture in that email of the cheapest and the most expensive gas prices in your area.

We'll then share your findings on air and online.
