Retail Gasoline Prices Across Texas Up 2 Cents
Updated: 1:33 PM - Retail gasoline prices across Texas have risen 2 cents as travelers prepare for the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.
When you hear the name Slovacek's, most folks think of its famous meat market. But now their name is synonymous with something else.
If you've seen a pump patrol segment here on News 3, chances are you've seen Slovacek's with the lowest gas price a time or two. Right now the gas is costing just $2.49 a gallon. With that news spreading around the Brazos Valley, it's no wonder sales here are sky rocketing!
"We're seeing a lot of new faces. As fuel goes down, we keep going down. We're not trying to be the lowest, we're just maintaining our margins. As far as fuel sales, they're are up 125 percent and store sales are up 30 to 40 percent," said owner Tim Rabroker.
Rabroker has owned the Snook staple for 14 years now and he doesn't know why gas prices are so much higher in Bryan/College Station.
"We pretty much all work out of the same terminal, which is the Hearne terminal. They should be getting the same prices as us but we are an independent. Those folks are chains so they should be getting a cent or two better than we are so there shouldn't be any difference in what we're getting our fuel for. We're making money so the other guys should be making a lot of money." said Rabroker
So with one of the cheapest prices in the area, folks are flooding in to fill their tanks.
"We just happen to see the sign so we came and got it. I turned around!" said Don Davis of Somerville.
"The cheapest in Somerville is $2.69, so if I'm going to College Station, I'm stopping here. If I'm coming back, I'm stopping here." said Linda Woods of Lyons.
"I didn't make a special trip but now, I just might." said David Konderla of Bryan.
A special trip made by many, all to get cheap gas.
"Well that and they got a meat market." said Woods.
