High definition technology is spreading beyond the TV and into radio.

KAMU-FM, the National Public Radio affiliate licensed to Texas A&M University, previewed the first high definition technology for radio in the Bryan-College Station area.

The radio station celebrated its 30th anniversary where engineers were on hand to demonstrate the new technology.

"This will be a great way for everyone to see first hand how this digital HD technology looks and sounds," station manager Penny Zent said.

Listeners with HD receivers will soon be able to tune in to KAMU-FM and hear its new channels too.

Zent said the plan is to have the first HD technology to be an all-talk National Public Radio channel.

KAMU-FM, which focuses on education and the arts, is known for its popular programs such as "All Things Considered" and "Homeland Security Inside and Out."

Staff members with KAMU since the beginning shared stories from the radio station's past such as actress Doris Roberts from "Everybody Loves Raymond" waiting for her son to get off work in the lobby.

Singers Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen have also been at the radio station numerous times.
