AAA: Texas Retail Gasoline Prices Up 3 Cents
Posted: 05/16/2013 - Retail gasoline prices in Texas have risen 3 cents this week to reach an average $3.41 per gallon.
(AP) - An agreement between the White House and
automakers includes a doubling of overall fuel economy by the year
2025 -- when vehicles are supposed to average 54.5 miles per
gallon.
Today, that average for cars and trucks is 27. It's a deal that will save drivers money at the pump -- while
also dramatically cutting the heat-trapping gases that come from
tailpipes.
The mileage goals will be phased in starting with the 2017
models.
Obama said: "This agreement on fuel standards represents the
single most important step we have taken as a nation to reduce our
dependence on foreign oil."
The agreement, Obama said, "means filling up your car every two
weeks, instead of every week."
In 2009, automakers agreed to raise fuel economy standards to
35.5 miles per gallon by 2016.
