The owners of a popular Bryan restaurant were honored Tuesday for their impact in the community.
Richard and Bea Rodriguez and Tommy and Debbie (Rodriguez) Montalbano, owners of Casa Rodriguez, received the 5th Annual Hispanic-Owned Business Community Impact Award.
The group was honored at a luncheon sponsored by the B/CS Chamber of Commerce and Texas A&M's Historically Underutilized Business Program.
The Rodriguezes opened Casa Rodriguez in Bryan in 1978 and their daughter and son-in-law joined in the ownership in January 2006. The business has flourished for almost 30 years and moved several times in order to accommodate its growth.
Annual sales at the old location averaged between $125,000 and $140,000, according to the Chamber of Commerce. In 2006, at their new location in downtown Bryan, annual sales were up 400%. They now have 15 full-time employees, and have a payroll of approximately $200,000.
