Lina Lawson of Bryan has been elected national president of the
American Business Women's Association (ABWA), the nation's premier
organization for workingwomen. She was sworn into office Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Association's 2007 National Women's Leadership Conference held in Greensboro, NC.
As an 8-year member, Lawson belongs to ABWA's Leading Women Express
Network in Bryan and the Bryan/College Station Charter Chapter. She was named 2007 American Business Woman of ABWA, the Association's most prestigious honor.
Lawson has a bachelor's of fine arts degree from Sam Houston State
University in Huntsville. She is the co-owner and senior designer of Twinz Co. Marketing & Graphic Design, a full service marketing and graphic design firm located in old downtown Bryan.
Lawson served on the ABWA National Nominating Committee and has held the positions of national vice president, District II vice president, Express Network and chapter president, vice president and chapter treasurer. She is active with organizations such as Alpha Chi Omega, The American Heart Association, Special Olympics and many more. She has worked on numerous committees for her chapter and Express Network, including the Express Network new formation committee, Express Network nominating committee and chapter newsletter and fund-raising committees.
As national president, she will supervise the business affairs of the
Association conducted by the board. She also will speak at ABWA national and regional spring conferences and at chapter and Express Network events nationwide.
Founded in 1949 by Hilary A. Bufton Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., ABWA is a 40,000 member strong association with chapters and Express Networks nationwide, providing business training and networking opportunities for women of diverse occupations and backgrounds. ABWA has dedicated more than half a century to women's education and provided workplace skills and career development training for more than 545,000 members.
