Accelerator Technology Corporation wins New Ventures Competition

Biological Control Products Company takes $10,000 Runner-up Prize
RESEARCH VALLEY – Two Research Valley based emerging technology companies with strong links to Texas A&M University were awarded a $30,000 Grand Prize and $10,000 Runner-up Prize in the 2008 Research Valley New Ventures Competition.
Accelerator Technology Corporation (ATC) was named the Grand Prize winner of the Competition for their new enterprise that will develop and mass produce the world’s first commercial 1.2 GHz NMR spectrometer for use in protein spectroscopy for biomedicine, opening the way for rapid screening of pharmaceuticals in molecular medicine. Using the “Intel Inside” model, ATC will utilize unique, patented superconducting technology to develop, manufacture, and sale this breakthrough technology from The Research Valley. ATC plans to place its first unit GHz NMR system at Texas A&M University. “Accelerator Technology Corporation is thrilled to win the New Ventures Competition,” says Dr. Peter McIntyre, President of ATC. “It is a welcome boost as we launch into development of GHz NMR, a new instrument that will help medical researchers decipher the structure of proteins and the mechanisms that diseases use to attack the body. We are proud to bring this new manufacturing business to The Research Valley.”
Phage Biocontrol LLC (PB), a biotechnology company, placed second in the Competition and takes the $10,000 runner-up prize. PB will harness phage to combat bacteria causing pipeline corrosion and reservoir souring in the oil and gas industries. The company’s truly green biocides will bridge the divide between medical research and industrial needs and in doing so, provide natural biological solutions, to make industries safer, more efficient and most importantly, ecologically benign. PB has plans to develop a laboratory and production facility in The Research Valley. Dr. Neil Summer, President of PB, says “the New Ventures Competition helped to validate our business plan and provided us with great feedback from the judges that will assist us as we move forward in accelerating our development as a company here in The Research Valley. The financial prize was an added bonus to an outstanding experience, and we plan on using the money to purchase some needed equipment."
As part of the competition both companies are required to launch and maintain their core operations in The Research Valley. The New Ventures Competition serves to advance the region’s growing entrepreneurial spirit, provide seed funding to help transition today’s innovative ideas into tomorrow’s leading firms, and grow the economic wealth of The Research Valley. “Accelerator Technology Corporation and Phage Biocontrol represent the Research Valley’s commercialization future,” says Todd E. McDaniel, President and CEO of the Research Valley Partnership. “Both new ventures will potentially bring to the marketplace world-class technologies, products, and services developed in partnership with Texas A&M University. The Research Valley Partnership is very proud to play a part in the growth of these emerging technology companies.”
