The annexation of five new areas is underway in Bryan. The city council voted Tuesday night to move forward with acquiring those properties. The next step is to schedule public hearings.
In all, more than 8,000 acres of property are set to be annexed. Last month, council members postponed the process until they could get more details. Since then, the Bryan Business Council has recommended another 3,700 acres in the northwest and southeast, all to get ahead of impending growth.
Included in the discussion is property in the northern portion of the city known as the "donut hole." The 1,200 acres of Brazos County property is completely surrounded by Bryan land.
