BTU finished with the top score in the western region and as number four overall in the United States in a benchmark study that compared outage data. The average outage duration for each customer served, measured in minutes and known as SAIDI, was compared with the same data from 23 western utilities and a total of 165 utility companies across the US. In other words, when BTU has an outage, they typically get the lights back on more quickly than any of the other western region companies participating in the survey, which included eleven Texas utilities.
BTU recently contracted this study from PA Consulting Group who has partnered with energy clients for over 25 years. The objective of reliability benchmarking is to measure performance relative to peer operations, thus allowing BTU and other companies to gain an objective understanding of their performance, why outages occur, and to drive effective change where necessary.
The results of the SAIFI data, the average number of interruptions that a customer would experience, were also impressive. Among those participating in this survey, BTU finished third in the western region and tenth in the nation.
The findings were presented to the BTU Board of Directors and confirmed their confidence that the utility is performing at the highest level.
