After several inches of soaking rains fell across most of the Brazos Valley this past weekend, parts of the area saw further improvement from the ongoing drought.
The latest National Drought Monitor was released at 7:30am Thursday and reflected that a small part of the Brazos Valley had been downgraded to a "Moderate Drought" versus the "Severe Drought" that was in place last week.

Moderate Drought holds the classification of D1 -- the lowest level of drought category there is. Severe Drought is classified as D2.
Areas that have been downgraded include parts of Lee, Burleson, Brazos, Madison, Leon, San Jacinto, Trinity and Montgomery Counties. -- including locations such as Caldwell, Madisonville and Bryan / College Station.
On average, rainfall amounts from last Thursday through Sunday ranged between three to five inches. With it being a steady rain, area grounds were able to soak up much of the water rather than seeing run-off into area lakes, creeks and rivers. Enough rain fell, here and across much of North Texas, to even cause a few creeks to overrun their banks leading to road closures in localized areas for a short period of time early in the week.
