The Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce put together a delegation that visited the capitol in Austin earlier this year. Now, they're going to a different capitol.

Members of the business community and area leaders left from Easterwood Airport Monday morning to head to Washington, DC to meet with elected officials. The Chamber hosts the trip each year to ensure that topics critical to businesses and those that may impact the community overall are delivered directly to Capitol Hill.

“We’re asking the federal government to implement and follow practices just like all businesses have to adhere to succeed,” said Chamber President and CEO Royce Hickman. “Simple things like balancing a budget and reducing spending, while removing or altering items that are impeding business growth.”

Those going on the trip foot the bill themselves in order to meet with members of the Texas delegation. The plan is to visit with all the members of the House of Representatives from the Lone Star State or their staffs, as well as both Texas senators. Meetings are set with District 17's Bill Flores and Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn.

This will be the eleventh trip to Washington by a Chamber delegation, this in addition to regular visits to Austin to meet with the state's leaders and their staffs.

News 3 will have coverage of the trip throughout the week on air and online here at KBTX.com
