Construction begins on the old Plaza Hotel in College Station this summer. But before the aging facility can be converted into a mixed use property, the entire property has to be demolished.

News 3 has learned that there have already been some discussions about imploding the 17 floor tower.

Vagrants and trespassers often call this place home. But soon one of the city's only hi rise will be reduced to rubble. Several local agencies have already started talking about contingencies plans if the hi-rise were to be imploded. Preliminary discussions have begun about road closures and perimeters if that were to happen.

When the multi-million dollar project is completed it would house more than 600 students units and 60-thousand square feet of retail, restaurants and shops.

The old Plaza Hotel is owned by Woodrige Properties College Station.
