Job Summary:
The Transit Supervisor -- Nights is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the campus transit system, monitoring routes, coordinating drivers and buses, assisting customers, supervising charters, and responding to accidents for the night hours. This supervisor will be responsible for making all operational decisions from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am, Monday -- Friday

Other Requirements or Other Factors: This position will be covered by DOT regulations and be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool. Must be able to work in all types of weather; standing and sitting for long periods of time; required to work the closing shift, holidays and weekends. This position will require working on most home football game days and other special events. During Fall and Spring semesters, duty hours are 4:30 pm -- 1:00 am Monday through Friday. During breaks and summer, hours vary ending between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm.

Job Duties: In the field, supervise all activities which may require working in all types of weather. Responsible for reconnaissance of traffic situations and operational stability that may influence driver movements to help ensure efficiency; time and space out buses and assist drivers and customers with any questions they may have about routes, procedures, and operations. Keep track of missing bus stop signs for replacement. Monitor effectiveness and efficiency in customer service and operational soundness. Assume ownership of projects. Supervise and monitor drivers for adherence of policies and procedures to include ensuring that all State laws, University rules, and Transportation Services policies, and expectations are being adhered to. Document and distribute action forms to drivers. Responsible for approving time worked and leave requests for full-time and part-time drivers. Expected to drive, dispatch, mobile supervise and train new drivers. As the night closer, responsible for making all decisions with little to no supervision/oversight due to late shift schedule.

In the office may be required to stand and sit for long periods of time while serving as the coordination point of contact between the shop, Transit Office, and supervisors in field. Monitors activities at the Transit Office and on the lot. Inputs all necessary data entry required by management to include charter assignments, passenger counts, driver memos, and information to be placed on "A-Frames". Sorts all incoming and outgoing mail, reroutes to appropriate manager, shop, or facility. Updates the route board, desktop paperwork, and charter summary sheet for changes to charters, routes, and downed buses as changes occur. Assigns buses. Processes all incoming maintenance sheets. Issues vehicles to staff for use. Distributes charter paperwork to drivers, informs them of bus assignment and answers questions. Ensures paperwork is properly completed and processed in a timely manner. As the night closer, answer phone calls and handle all administrative duties with little to no supervision/oversight due to late shift schedule.

Monitors all radio traffic. Monitors and updates the daily log of information such as all necessary events including late drivers, no shows, any abandonment of workstations, sick drivers, bus swaps, mechanical problems, and discipline issues. Coordinates between the office and field for driver shortages, lates, sicks, no shows, abandonment of workstations, deployment plans, bus swaps and other policy issues. Distributes to drivers their route folders, bus assignment information, passenger counts, radios to vans, maps, credit card packets, window signs, etc. As the night closer, supervise all night routes and charters with little to no supervision/oversight due to late shift schedule. Responsible for all closing duties including all preparation for the next day's operations including coordinating staffing changes, responding to accidents, bus assignments, coordination with maintenance to have equipment for use and all dispatch and supervisory operations that are ongoing at night.

Required Education and Experience: High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Four years progressively responsible positions including two years supervisory and customer service experience. Must be computer literate and have excellent communication skills; ability to handle busy phone, 2-way radio and office traffic, and to perform time-critical tasks reliably. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Valid vehicle operator's license and good driving record. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "B" vehicle operator's license (Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) within 45 days of employment.

Compensation: $18.49/hr
