Sales Tax Break on Some Appliances this Weekend

If your air conditioner is on the fritz or your refrigerator isn't working, this weekend may be the time to go shopping.

It's the Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday. It's a three day tax break in Texas that runs from Saturday, May 29 and lasts until Monday, May 31.

During the holiday you don't have to pay sales tax on certain energy-efficient home appliances. Some predict that this weekend you'll find better deals than you would using the cash for appliances program.

Eligible products are air conditioners costing less than $6,000, refrigerators priced at $2,000 or less, ceiling fans and dishwashers. The savings is also on incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs, clothes washers, dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats.
