Need a mini vacation from all the stresses of the past and upcoming weeks? This week’s picture comes to you from Dallas, Texas, home of the Texas State Fair. This picture was taken directly underneath the Texas Star, the massive steel Ferris Wheel at the State Fair.
The State Fair opened this past weekend with a smaller crowd than usual due to the wet weather, but will continue on through the month of October. There is still plenty of time to take the family for a small road trip up to the State Fair for the weekend. It requires at least the weekend to see and experience all the fair has to offer. There is something for the whole family here. Dad can take a walk through the car show which exhibits the latest 2013 models from Dodge, Ford, Chrysler, Chevrolet, and every other manufacturer. There is also a petting zoo and kiddie rides for the young ones, while the Texas Star and several roller coasters will entertain teens and young adults alike. A butterfly exhibit, exotic bird display, and others are available throughout the daylight hours.
The State Fair is known for its outrageous amounts of fried food, and this year does not disappoint. The fried pecan pie is especially good, but this year’s prize winner went to the fried jambalaya. You can also sample fried cheesecake, fried butter, fried Oreos or Snickers, fried mac and cheese, and just about any other kind of fried food your heart desires.
You can check the State Fair website for the donation item of the day to receive a discounted ticket price. Maps are available upon entry for new comers and the huge fair is designed much like an amusement park. This is an experience every family should have and one I highly recommend you do together.
