As you count your blessings this November, join CW8 Aggieland in remembering those less fortunate by participating in Books and a Blanket.
Before winter break begins, it’s our goal to provide a blanket and a crate of books to children in need throughout Aggieland.
About Books and a Blanket
Books and a Blanket was founded by two local girls, Harper and Maggie, who saw a need to help those around them. When they realized that some of their classmates had no books to read, the girls- now 9 and 7 years old- organized a drive to provide a gift for every child at their school on free or reduced lunch. They re-purposed milk crates, filling them with a warm blanket and a stack of books, which doubled as a perfect bookshelf- a perfect gift for budding readers. To raise money for the project, Harper and Maggie accepted donations for friendship bracelets, headbands and rock collections at First Friday events in downtown Bryan and placed collection sites at their school and church.
The girls are now looking to expand their efforts to serve both Bryan ISD and College Station ISD and have enlisted the support of CW8 and KBTX Media for help. It is our hope that the effort will continue to grow to cover all of the Brazos Valley in the coming years.
