The wait for a table at a restaurant is practically nonexistent, the line at HEB is a non-issue and traffic has all but disappeared. This can only mean one thing: its summer in Aggieland. Having spent every summer of my college career staying in town and working, I'll be the first to tell you that the level of ghost town that College Station becomes can get a little boring. But I may have a solution for you, in the form of three things you may not normally do, or know you can do, around here.
Lakeside Icehouse at Lake Bryan
This is something that has been on my list of things to do for a while, and this summer I'm making it a point to check it out. If you love the water, and love live music, this is the place for you. With past and returning acts ranging from Aaron Watson to local favorite Clayton Gardner, to numerous emerging Texas country acts, the Icehouse is the perfect summer spot to hit with your friends.
Now I know The Tap isn't something many are unfamiliar with. Personally I'm a creature of habit and stick a little too closely to my routines, so with my newfound free time I've been looking for a change of pace. And that's what The Tap has been for me. Tuesdays are always 90's night, which is right up my alley with my shameless love for everything we loved in elementary school. And if you've never been to Piano Bar on Wednesdays, you're missing out on a hilarious experience that's always a blast.
If you're looking for live music at a great venue, this is something you should check out. And even better: its free. Former Aggie Rick Trevino kicked off the series a few weeks ago, and there are two more shows lined up for the rest of the summer. Located at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater, you can bring in chairs, blankets, coolers and food and relax with friends and family.
There are so many more things in town that I know I haven't discovered yet, even after living here for as long as I have now. If you have anything new and fun you've found to do in town, please let me know! Until then, I'll be checking out these and anything else I find, and I hope you will too!
