Have you ever come across a wonderful form of entertainment? Something so great that you’re torn between keeping it to yourself, and sharing it with absolutely everyone you know? That is exactly how I feel about Katie Armiger’s music.
I stumbled across Katie’s music a couple years ago after hearing her single “Best Song Ever” on the radio. With catchy lyrics, a powerful voice, and maturity beyond her years shining through every track, Katie Armiger is not an artist you want to pass by.
Katie Armiger is a singer/songwriter, reminiscent of Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood but with a sound, musical style, and a personality that is all her own. The twenty-one year old singer just released her fourth album, “Fall Into Me”, with Cold River Records a couple of weeks ago and I have been listening to it nonstop since then.
The new album contains fourteen tracks, on each of which Katie acted as a co-writer. While the entire album is worth purchasing, there are a few songs in particular that really stood out to me.
Armiger’s single, “Better in a Black Dress” was released a few months prior to the rest of the album and it really stands out to me. The song is catchy, witty, and different than anything I’ve heard before. The track is centered on young a woman, who ditches her wedding gown, for the freedom that comes with being single; proclaiming “I’m just a girl/ I’m not a wife/ I just need a little time to live my life.” This song will have you singing along in no time!
Another one of my favorites off “Fall Into Me” is the song “Cardboard Boxes”, which is a bit deceiving. Initially it gives you the impression that it is about a blissfully happy couple that just moved in together. But listeners soon realize that those lines are just a nostalgic glimpse of what used to be as Katie transitions to the chorus, asking, “How’d we lose touch? / Was it not enough/ Everything that we found…”. While the message is not that of a happy ending like some of the other tracks found on the album, I find this song beautiful in the way it paints such a vivid picture of a relationship from it’s beginning to the tragic end.
