Kimberly Dunn is a San Antonio native and Aggie alum who made her dream of being a singer a reality after winning a battle of the bands competition in Aggieland in November of 2010. Since then she has been making her mark on the Texas Music scene, recording and performing her music.
Typically I do not write about an artist until I’ve listened to their music for about a week or so, in order to really get a feel for their sound, lyrical content, and personality. However with Kimberly’s music I had to make an exception. I heard about her through word of mouth by a couple of Aggie parents Saturday evening and knew immediately after I looked up her music that she was a musician I had to share.
Kimberly Dunn’s music had me captivated, from the first downbeat, until the final note rang out. It becomes apparent quite quickly from listening to Dunn’s music that she is doing what she loves. What is truly unique about Kimberly that her passion lines up seamlessly with raw, natural, talent. There is a sort of energy that fills each track that has me convinced that she was born to be a musician. Kimberly’s ability to convey such emotion and so much of her personality into her music has me convinced that she has a wonderful career ahead of her.
A couple of my favorite tracks off her EPs are “Randy Rodgers” and “ The Road”. “Randy Rodgers” initially caught my attention because it utilizes several well-known Texas country artists and their tracks within the chorus. But I also really appreciate that the song highlights the power of music, and how it can take you back to particular moments and memories. “The Road” stands out to me, because the style is a bit different from any of the other tracks. The song features a beautiful, simple melody that really showcases Kimberly’s voice.
