If you could know the exact day you would meet your soul-mate, would you want to know? That is the question posed by TiMER, a film set in the not so distant future where science has taken the uncertainty out of love. Or at least thats is what the “TiMER” device promises.
TiMER follows Oona (Emma Caulfield) whose TiMER device, to her dismay is blank, meaning her “one” does not have a TiMER. Oona has lived her life playing it safe, not wanting to be in a relationship without a guarantee that it will not end in heartbreak. That is until one day frustrated at living her life dictated by the lack of numbers on her wrist, she disregards the device in favor of living impulsively.
Through a relationship Oona knows from the very beginning is not one that is meant to last, she realizes the importance of taking chances in her life. Although her time spent in a relationship that was deemed to be doomed for failure by both her mother, and step-sister, it taught Oona a lot about herself and challenged her beliefs, which made it worthwhile. TiMER illustrates time and again that even though something may not be perfect, it can still be meaningful.
TiMER is the kind of delightful film you are fortunate enough to stumble upon every now and then. A film that brings to life characters that are both like you, and ones you have nothing in common with, a film that makes you think, and feel, and for a short time, make sense of life. TiMER is funny, a bit quirky, and extremely thought provoking. TiMER is a reminder that despite meticulous planning and calculations, we cannot predict where life will take us. It is easy to let moments escape us, waiting for something better to fall into place, but life doesn’t wait on anyone, and it is crucial that we really live everyday.
