The Cannes Film Festival quickly approaching. With only fifteen days left until the festival and my internship begins, I’ve been scouring the internet for information regarding the official selection which was announced April 18th, and modified to include a few more films on April 26th.
“The Great Gatsby” and “The Bling Ring” are the two films that I have been most eager to see. “The Great Gatsby” is one of my favorite books and to see it come to life in a with so much attention to detail and an awesome soundtrack, is fantastic. “The Bling Ring” will be screening at the festival under the “Un Certain Regard” category, which is a category to showcase all kinds of experimental films. It was created in 1998 to highlight young talent and encourage innovation. This is a separate category from the main category of films that are in competition for the Palme d’Or, the most prestigious award of the festival. “The Bling Ring” caught my attention initially because of Emma Watson (how great is her valley-girl accent in the trailer?) but I think the film will be a very interesting account of true-events.
A couple other titles I look forward to seeing are the closing film “Zulu” staring Orlando Bloom and “Inside Llewyn Davis” a film about a folk musician in 1960s New York. In addition to the films I just mentioned, I am looking forward to embracing this opportunity to see films, such as foreign films, that I might not have seen otherwise. This internship will definitely be a learning experience for me, and I can’t wait to share with you all not only some wonderful film recommendations, but also some of what I learn along the way.
