College Station, TX It may not be Friday but let's get reFRESHed!
Feel free to leave me a comment! I may not be Oprah Winfrey, or have the fashion sense of Elle Woods, but I care about YOU and have so much to share with you when it comes to loving yourself-especially since Jesus loved you first! Enjoy these tips and suggestions to make your Friday even better!
Food for thought:
Easter is right around the corner, and along with every other holiday throughout the year, grocery stores never disappoint in the candy aisle. Pastel colored M&Ms, Easter egg sized candy, chocolate Godiva bunnies-oh my!
All of this is good and well, but allow me to steer away from the chocolatey goodness that Easter brings since a lot of you many have given up sweets for lent (let’s not forget Jesus is the reason for the season y’all)! Am I right or am I right?
Bunnies like carrots remember?
In order to think healthy thoughts, may I enlighten your taste buds with the benefits of tuna. I indulged in a tuna salad sandwich at MadHatter’s last Friday, (as you read along you’ll understand that I’m not saying I had lunch at Mad Hatter’s house-even though that would be mad as a hatter) and boy was it mm-mm good! My roommates are really big on tuna, and because of them I have joined their venture in healthy eating and have too consumed in canned tuna. Uh-oh-did I lose you? Canned? Yes, canned you’d be surprised-ok ok it smells like cat food, but guess what guys, while canned tuna is inexpensive it’s also packed with protein. “The fish is mild in flavor and versatile enough to include in a variety of nutritious recipes. Opt for tuna canned in water, and a serving contains less than 1 gram of fat and only about 100 calories. You'll also get a good dose iron and potassium as well. While you shouldn't eat tuna every day because of its mercury content, you can still safely enjoy canned tuna as a regular part of your healthy eating plan.”
*Stay healthy my friends!*
Coffee with Carly:
‘Behind every successful person is a substantial amount of coffee’ if you want to meet me for a warm cup of joe I’m always ready for a good conversation! For this Friday, since you’ve been the superhero of your life, revive your body and become replenished and relaxed at MadHatter’s Tearoom and Boutique just 30 minutes down the road in Caldwell, TX.
Remember how I’m on an herbal tea kick? Instead of going to trendy Starbucks and spending half of your weekend eat-out budget on a latte, make it a girl’s trip and spend your day at MadHatter’s!
How did I stumble upon this gold mine? Well- I didn’t! My soul-sister-friend-of-a-lifetime-maid-of-honor, Rachael did! Rachael is good at everything she does, including random restaurant hunting! She goes to UT (yes I know-my life is ridiculous, long distance with my bf and bff-it’s tough but it makes our relationships stronger) and we decided to meet somewhere in between Austin and College Station. And because she is gracious and wonderful, she drove closer to me and found a practically perfect tearoom that we marked our meeting place.
I urge you reader, to make a trip this weekend, meet the owner Jeanie Price herself, dress yourself up in tea hats and even a 1800s plantation gown and have ball! The chicken salad is the house specialty made with pecans, celery and a touch of curry in the dressing, many guests say that it is addictive. The quiche will be the creamiest you have ever eaten and pies taste like Grandma's.
Curiouser and curiouser?
Relax in the slower pace of MadHatter’s Tearoom and enjoy some of their flavoured gourmet teas:
Lap Sang Souchong (Smoky pine & oak fire wood), Cheeky Peach (Peach, cloves, cardamon & ginger), La Marche Spice (Fruit and cinnamon), Palace Garden Party (Earl grey with jasmine), Mango, Caramel, Choc-a-Peel (Chocolate / orange ), Italian Almond, Monks Blend (Vanilla & grenadine), Le March'e Spice (Cinnamon fruit), Blue Berry, Strawberry, Peach Apricot, Vanilla, Black Currant, and Peach
Friday Fun Jam:
Friday is a day to let loose, reflect on your week (hectic or not) and start to unwind-by perhaps turning on the radio at work, on your ipod after class, or in your car.
Since my fiancé Trent, is coming in town Thursday for Kappa’s formal (happy dance happy dance happy dance) I will literally be ‘workin’ for the weekend’ here at KBTX Media/CW 8 Aggieland and at my two others jobs, plus school! And to that, I say-bring on the future hubby and weekend!
In honor of George Strait winning Entertainer of the Year, I’d like to share with y’all, me and Trent’s “song” and announce Strait’s “I Cross My Heart” as this week’s Friday Fun Jam.
Our love is unconditional
We knew it from the start
I can see it in your eyes
You can feel it from my heart
From here on after
Lets stay the way we are right now
And share all the love and laughter
That a lifetime will allow
I cross my heart
And promise to
Give all Ive got to give
To make all your dreams come true
In all the world
You'll never find
A love as true as mine
Good ole George. So sweet-so cheesy-he deserves “Entertainer of the Year” any year in my book.
Do you and your significant other have a “song” that describes your love for each other? It’s cheesy I know- but since Trent and I were 15, it stuck. Comment below with you and yours’ melody of love!
So far I’ve given you recommendations for ‘Redeeming Love’ by Francine Rivers, ‘Captivating’ and ‘Wild at Heart’ by John and Stasi Eldredge, ‘Crazy Love’ by Fancis Chan, and ‘Youth Aflame’ by Winkie Pratney, start writing your own story by journaling, Alyssa Bethke and Lindsay Moreau’s blog, and last week I introduced Bob Goff’s book ‘Love Does’-all of these are preparing you to open your heart and mind to a better life with Jesus! Not only do they challenge you to look at a perspective beyond the norm in which you’ve created for yourself, they also encourage you to delve into the possibilities of letting go and letting God-in all aspects of your life.
Want/need a day to day devotional that keeps you motivated, peaceful, and that magically has exactly the right words and scripture you need for that day? Well, it might not be magic, but it is Sarah Young’s journaling-journey-listening-to-God-with-pen-in-hand that produced “Jesus Calling.”
It’s powerful folks, and makes you feel warm inside.
What’s our purpose? Trust in Him.
A couple days ago I had an encouraging talk with my godmother, M.A.
I reached out to her in hopes that she could join me in prayer as this season of my life brings so much change all at once, which makes me become weak and overwhelmed. We discussed our purpose as followers in Christ, here on earth-and how we are called to form a better relationship with Him each day. She reminded me that while I will be getting a job and starting a career in the next few months, I need to be looking up, doing things for His glory, rather than looking to managers, CEOs, and bosses to earn value.
This is especially difficult because I always feel like I need to prove. prove. prove to myself and others that I’m worthy of a certain position and that I’m good enough to be hired. Exhausting? Yes.
And yes, it’s a tiring roller coaster of emotions- which is why I want to admit this to you all, in hopes that it touches at least one reader that is going through the same thing or feeling the same way.
The Big Man upstairs is hard at work planning your life better than you could ever plan for yourself.
Rest in John 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.”
Keep looking up friends!
