BRYAN, Texas The annual celebration of Steaks and Grapes is just two days away in Downtown Bryan.
News 3 looked into some of the changes for the Texas Reds Steak and Grape Festival and how organizers are hoping to make more money.
It's become Bryan's Signature event.
The Texas Reds Steak and Grape Festival.
"How are y'all? How many in your party today ma'am,?" asked Michael Perez, who co-owns Papa Perez Mexican Restaurant.
Perez is ready for record turnout at his place this weekend.
"\We're going to have patio seating outside. We'll have it all roped off in front of the restaurant and we'll have patio tables out there, canopies, he said.
Other new changes include moving the main stage further north up Main Street. It will be the only fenced off area instead of the whole event. You'll have to pay $5 to get into the main stage area Saturday night with Steve Wariner headlining.
Even though there won't be a $5 fee to get into Downtown Bryan all day Saturday, festival organizers are hopeful their income won't drop.
"We wanted to try something different," said Bryan Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker.
Walker says they still hope to break even or turn a profit someday.
Last year the Reds ran $153,147 in the red.
"We're focusing on the community as a whole, but then also Downtown Bryan to get folks to come to downtown. It's sort of a marketing ploy for us. Once again it will cost the city money," Walker said.
While the costs continue for the city, Gifts &Gab Owner Marilyn Ferguson says it's a big benefit for businesses like hers.
"I think it's going to be a really good Texas Reds and they have changed some things that I think the people coming are going to be happy about," she said.
A continuing tradition for feasting on food.
Part of the proceeds from Texas Reds will go toward a donation in honor of the Bryan Firefighters killed and injured in the Knights of Columbus Hall fire in February.
