When we said that the mad dash towards the holidays would begin this week, we weren’t kidding. We don’t know about you, but our workload this week was legendary. Those who work hard, however, deserve to play hard, and this weekend the Brazos Valley is a great place to do that. What’s happening this weekend?

Obviously, there’s a football game . The Aggies’ first home game of the year and- perhaps more importantly- their first foray into SEC Football kicks off Saturday at 2:30. Of course this is all magnified by the presence of ESPN’s renowned pregame show College Gameday. Gameday kicks off their third visit to Aggieland at 8:00 a.m. Saturday on ESPNU, then picks up the action at 9:00 a.m. on ESPN.

Of course, you can catch Aggie Gameday, KBTX Media’s award-winning pregame show before every home game. All the action with your favorite local sports team- and a few fresh new faces- kicks off at 10:00 a.m. on KBTX, with a special show streaming live at 1:00 p.m. on

Both shows are always a fan of crowds. Check out College Gameday at Simpson Drill Field, then make your way to the set of Aggie Gameday in the Fan Zone in front of Kyle Field. While you’re there, be sure to stop by the KBTX Media booth and pick up your limited-edition Howdy Button and some great CW8 swag.

Not feeling a trip to Kyle this weekend? It may be a great time to check out the inaugural Brazos Valley Fair & Expo at the Brazos County Expo. The fair features a full midway, CPRA rodeo, a petting zoo, and plenty of food and entertainment for all ages. Not a morning person? Not to worry! The fair is open from 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Finally, one of our favorite events just happens to be taking place in Caldwell this weekend: the 28th Annual Kolache Festival . Caldwell, “the kolache capital of Texas”, celebrates its Czech heritage on the second Saturday in September every year. Enjoy the most enormous assortment of kolaches you’ll ever see, along with great live music, arts and crafts, a car and antique tractor show, Czech dancers and bands and plenty of fun you won’t find anywhere else in Texas. Insider tip? Some of the best food and fun isn’t located on the square. Make sure you take time to wander!
