Two Guys and Their Guitars: Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers at Harry's

Wednesday night, Hurricane Harry's hosted the Aggieland stop on Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers' acoustic show. The Hold My Beer and Watch This tour has been going strong for seven "rounds" now, and it is without a doubt the highlight of my summer every year.

In my book, Wade and Randy are the reigning Kings of Texas Country, and combining their unbelievable vocals and songwriting with their longtime friendship makes for an incredible show. They are true entertainers, only needing their acoustic guitars and raw voices singing true, real lyrics to put on a packed-house show. Add in their witty banter with each other and the crowd, and this was easily the best installment of the tour I've seen in the five I've been to.

And appropriately, the royal Texans paid homage to the King of Country Music, George Strait, not only by performing a few of his songs, but also having his 1992 big screen acting debut Pure Country playing all through the set. (If you've never seen it, rent it. Or go ahead and buy it. You'll thank me.)

Along with Wade's cover of Amarillo by Morning, Randy belted The Fireman to give the dancers in the crowd something to spin to.

Each performed a wide array of their own songs. Both have had new albums come out within the last year, so a mix of their new material, requests from the crowd, and even their early hits made up the set list.

Like I said, Hold My Beer and Watch This is my favorite thing about summer coming back around. If you didn't make it this year, they'll be back next summer. But to get you through until then, pick up their new albums: Trouble - Randy Rogers Band and The Given - Wade Bowen.

Hope you find your new favorite song!
