Dr. Henry Steadman feels in your life you have about ten days that are truly great and you remember for the rest of your life. He feels that today has the potential to be one of those days; little does he know the real reason behind this memorable day. He is a well known plastic surgeon and is on his way to a conference in Florida where he is the main speaker. He has plans to go play golf on one of the best courses in Florida with an old college buddy and then has plans with a beautiful woman after the conference. What could possibly go wrong on this amazing day?
First comes getting pulled over for a minor violation, then forced out of his car, cuffed and threatened to be sent to jail. After being questioned multiple times by these cops, they finally work things out and eventually all the other cops go on about their own ways. Steadman is about to get his warning and be on his way to enjoy this supposedly great day.
Suddenly, a blue car races up beside the police cruiser, shoots the cop and drives off leaving Steadman as the only person around the scene of the crime. Steadman takes off on a chase after the mysterious blue car in an attempt to catch the mystery assailant, but eventually loses him.
After speaking with a dispatcher from 911, he realizes he must head back to the crime scene When he gets close enough to see the commotion this has caused, though, he has a sudden feeling of panic, realizing that he was the last person seen with the cop before he was shot, which means only one thing: Steadman is now the main suspect.
Steadman realizes that he has only one person he can trust in this town, his old college buddy. After calling him and explaining to him what has happened, the friend tells him to come to his house and they will work this whole thing out and get his name cleared. Once he has arrived at his friend’s house, he finds his friend has been shot and is now dead. Two murders in less than one hour and the only thing linking these two together is Dr. Henry Steadman.
In this intense thriller, Dr. Henry Steadman is on a race to prove his innocence before others can proclaim his guilt. Throughout the book, Steadman receives help from the most unlikely source of all and finds out what lengths he will go to in order to protect himself and his family.
Perhaps the most compelling thing about "15 Seconds" is the fact that Andrew Gross got the idea for this book from his own experience in Houston, Texas. He was pulled over, cuffed and told he was under arrest and going to jail. Gross was eventually let go and nobody was hurt that day.
He wanted to change the outcome of that situation and I think he did an absolutely incredible job with this book. It was such an intense book and really hard for me to put down. I was determined to figure out how everything would end and let me tell you it was not what I was expecting at all!
The way Gross writes this book is genius; with threee main characters, the book is constantly shifting between each of their point of views. I love this kind of writing because it helps keep the book from possibly going through a dull or boring period. You are constantly kept on your toes through each chapter and I would recommend this book to anyone, especially if you are a mystery junkie like me. Andrew Gross did not disappoint and I will definitely be reading more of his books in the future.
