This week I picked Full Disclosure by Dee Henderson as my book to review. Well book reviews are my time to be completely honest right?! I honestly did not care for this book that much, it had its good parts, but it also had its bad parts. When I read the description I was like oh man this is going to be an intense mystery, but it did not live up to my standards of how a mystery novel should be. Let me give you a brief overview of what the story was about and then I can get down to really reviewing this baby.
This book is based around two characters, Ann Silver and Paul Falcon, both cops. Ann is the Midwest Homicide Investigator and Paul is the FBI’s top murder cop in the Midwest. Paul and Ann’s lives intersect when Ann comes across a car wreck and a suspicious death that leads her into a case that Paul and the FBI have been working on for years. This case involves a hired lady shooter who has killed over thirty people. Ann hands the case over to Paul, but Paul can’t help but feel a special connection to Ann. He wants to do everything he can to get to know her and he soon finds out that this woman is so much more than he could have ever imagined. Throughout this book you will see their relationship grow; you will see Paul do everything he can to solve the lady shooter case and just when things are starting to come together Ann shows Paul the John Doe Killer case file and Paul soon finds out who he is really falling in love with.
Sounds like a pretty good book right? I hate having to criticize a book because I can only imagine how much hard work and time goes into writing one, but this book was just too long for my taste. There were so many details that I felt could have been left out. One thing that really bothered me was throughout the whole book there was barely any attribution when the characters would speak. So sometimes when a lot of people were in the same scene I would get confused on who was saying what and that bothered the heck out of me.
There were three main story lines; you have Paul and Ann’s relationship, the lady shooter case and the John Doe Killer case. They were all interesting story lines and I had a feeling they might somehow tie in together and I was right. I do like it when authors do that it just makes the book feel more complete.
I feel like I have focused on the negative side of the book enough so now I am going to tell you about my favorite parts of the book. I absolutely loved getting to know Ann Silver’s character, she was a very independent woman and I loved that about her. Throughout the book you find out she knows all kinds of people from spies and soldiers to U.S Marshals and the former Vice President and all those people have nothing but the utmost respect for her. She has made a name for herself as a hard worker and her friends have nothing but the most loving things to say about her. When I was reading this book I couldn’t help but think that one day I would love to have a reputation like she does. Paul’s character was just as great, talk about one smart guy! The way he handles all the cases throughout the book is remarkable. The amount of patience he has with Ann and everyone he deals with is inspiring. I do have to give Henderson credit for creating two very amazing characters.
Ok so the book was too long for me, but I will be honest it was nice to see Paul and Ann’s relationship grow and I was very happy they finally got to the bottom of the lady shooter case and the John Doe Killer case will just throw you for a loop. It definitely had all the potential to be a great, classic mystery novel I would have just changed a few things if it were up to me. I am the type of person that likes to make my own mind up about everything so I suggest if this book sparks your interest then go for it! Read it and make your own assumptions about the book, I am just telling you what I personally thought. If you give it a shot feel free to let me know what you think! I am always up to talk about books.
Well I am done for this week, but I will be back in two weeks to give you a review over John Grisham’s The Racketeer. I am really looking forward to reading this book, fingers crossed it’s a good one so until next time my fellow book nerds!
