All I have been hearing from all my friends are how excited they are to see Safe Haven, well I thought this would be the perfect time for me to get the book and see what it was all about before I saw the movie. I have read numerous Nicholas Sparks’ books and I have never been disappointed so I was really looking forward to what was in store for me with Safe Haven.
Alright, here we go! Katie, a mysterious young woman, arrives in the small town of Southport, North Carolina and like any small town everyone is curious about who the new girl is. Katie is determined to keep to herself and avoid making any friendships with the people of this town. Things soon change when Katie catches the eye of local store owner, Alex, who is a widowed father of two. Katie also begins forming a friendship with her neighbor Jo. As time goes by in this small town Katie is surprisingly letting her guard down and finds herself really putting down some roots in Southport. Katie can’t deny her attraction to Alex and finds herself drawn to him and his family. As she spends more and more time with Alex she realizes that she is falling in love with him. No matter how strong her feelings get for Alex, Katie is still haunted by her past and all the secrets that come with it. Before Katie knows it she must choose between her life in Southport with the man she loves or to continue running from her past.
So let me just get this out of the way now; I loved, loved, loved this book! It was so like Nicholas Sparks, but then again so different than his other novels. It of course has the romance, but it also has so much more. It has drama, mystery, suspense, pain, and danger. This book is so touching and makes you want to believe in true love and that we should always appreciate what we have and never take things for granted.
As soon as I was finished with the book I went and saw the movie. I have to say I personally thought the movie stayed pretty close with the book. Of course there were some details that weren’t the exact same, but I didn’t mind what they changed at all. The chemistry between Julianne Hough, Katie, and Josh Duhamel, Alex, was amazing to watch on the big screen and let’s just face it Josh Duhamel is beautiful! The movie was a great love story and I will definitely be buying it when it is released on DVD.
I am just so pleased with this book; it had such an impact on me and was a fantastic love story. I felt like I became so attached to the characters and I wanted the best for them! There was also an unexpected twist at the end that I never would have saw coming and it had me in tears. Sparks really pulled out the big guns when he wrote this book because it was fantastic. You get to watch Katie and Alex overcome some of the most difficult things any human being can be faced with and it’s so inspiring to see their journey.
I recommend this book to anyone! It will show you that heartbreak can be so painful, but you can love again, you just have to learn to trust again and that when it comes down to it love is really and truly the best safe haven.
