I was so excited for this week to get here because it meant I got to review Harlan Coben’s newest novel, “Six Years.” Now if you have read my reviews before you already know I am a huge Coben fan, for those of you reading this for the first time let me just warn you that I am obsessed with his books! I seriously read this book in two days and if I wouldn’t have had to go to work or participate in my actual life I would have finished it in the same day. Alright enough rambling let’s get down to it!

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years have passed since he promised her that he would leave them alone. Six years have passed of him having a broken heart and constantly thinking what could have been. Through the years Jake has not lost his feelings for Natalie so one can only imagine how he felt when one day at work he comes across an obituary for Todd Sanderson, Natalie’s husband. Jake can’t keep himself away from the funeral and in the back of his head, as bad as it may sound, he can’t help but think that now since Todd has passed what point is there of the promise he made to Natalie six years ago. Once Jake arrives at the funeral things begin to spin out of control; the morning wife of Todd Sanderson is not Natalie. Completely confused by it all Jake starts to do some digging and realizes that no one knows where Natalie is at, mutual friends of the couple act like they have no idea who Jake is or they just can’t be found. When Jake goes back to the retreat they first met at he finds out it doesn’t exist. Jake soon starts to question everything he thought about what happened six years ago. He knows he was going through a tough time, but could it really have all been a fantasy? Determined to find the truth, Jake won’t give up on Natalie and will do whatever it takes to find his lost love.

First off let me just say wow, Coben is back at it again and does not disappoint! The whole book is written from Jake’s perspective and he is an amazing character, he is very determined and extremely lovable. Coben always creates remarkable main characters and even in the tensest moments he still throws in some humor and I love him for that. This book has some pretty intense action scenes and I really like how detailed everything gets, I can picture it all so clearly as if I were right there watching it happen. In some mystery/suspense novels they can get so complicated and veer off from the main plot. I felt like in “Six Years” it all stayed grounded to the main story line, finding Natalie. Now there were some surprises and shocking information revealed, but it was all easy to follow. Not so easy that you were able to figure out what was going to happen, but it was a good clean story line.

Being the big Coben fan I am I always like to do some research on the books and oh man did I hit the jackpot on this book. I read several articles and I am crossing my fingers with everything I have that it is true, rumor has it that “Six Years” is going to be made into a movie and wait for it…Hugh Jackman is going to play Jake Fisher! When I read this all I could think was, excuse my caps lock, IT’S ABOUT TIME! If there are ever a set of books that should be taken to the big screen I believe Coben’s books are the ones to do it! Now I do understand that turning a book into a movie can be a tricky thing considering how some books turned movies have turned out, but I have all the faith in the world in this one. I know one of Coben’s best books; “Tell No One.” was made into a French film in 2006. I just hope that Coben helps out with the film and doesn’t let anyone try to change the storyline.

Overall “Six Years” was a fantastic, page-turning book. It was all about lost love and the lengths someone will go to unveil the truth. The story never came to a dull point and kept me completely consumed the entire time. I have not one bad thing to say about the book besides the fact that I finished it and now have to wait for his next book. Coben you have once again amazed me and I look forward to your future books and the movie!
