Former Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Employee Arrested

The Texas A&M University Police Department has arrested Lorenza Rios Nunez of Navasota for theft by a public servant $20,000 < $100,000 and two counts of credit card abuse.

In January 2013, the Texas A&M University Police were notified by the Texas A&M University System Internal Audit Investigators regarding an employee involved in the misuse of Texas A&M University resources.

Nunez was employed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service as a business coordinator supporting the Texas 4H Foundation from October 2010 until her termination in January 2013.

From July 2011 to December 2012, Nunez is accused of creating and using fraudulent checks from the Texas 4H Foundation checking account and making unauthorized payments and purchases with a Texas 4H Foundation credit card in excess of $20,000.

On March 14, 2013, University Police investigators obtained arrest warrants for Nunez. On March 18th, she turned herself in to University Police investigators at the Brazos County Jail. Her bond was set at $6000.

Theft by a public servant $20,000 < $100,000, a second-degree felony, is punishable by a prison term of up to 20 years and/or a $10,000 fine. Credit card abuse is a state jail felony, punishable by a prison term of up to two years and/or a $10,000 fine.

The case has been turned over to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
