Google held talks with Dish about potentially partnering up to launch a new wireless service, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Google Inc. has held talks with satellite-TV provider Dish Network Corp. in recent weeks to partner on a new wireless service that would rival the networks of wireless carriers such as AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless, according to people familiar with the discussions.

The talks between Dish and Google aren't advanced and could amount to nothing, one of the people said.

Google is just one of several companies that Dish has held talks with recently, and the discussions with other potential partners are also at an exploratory stage, said the people familiar with the discussions.

The founders of Foursquare, Gilt Groupe and other tech leaders are backing an effort to overhaul New York state's campaign finance laws, according to The New York Times.

Israel and Hamas have taken to Twitter to fire off threatening remarks to one another, the AP writes.

Verizon Wireless and AT&T differ in their approaches on how to make their mobile networks more reliable after a storm like Hurricane Sandy, according to The Wall Street Journal.
