COLLEGE STATION, Texas Home sales in Brazos and surrounding counties are the highest they've been in years, and experts say it will only go up from here.
According to the Bryan - College Station Regional Association of Realtors, home sales have jumped from around 149 in September of 2012 to 186 in 2013. In July of 2013, home sales peaked at around 292. This year, the association said sales topped 400.
Ed Berry with the Bryan, College Station Association of realtors said there are likely several reasons for the increase, including more business opportunities in the area, competitive home pricing and the growing popularity of Texas A&M University.
Berry said the continued cooperation between Bryan and College Station is another good reason.
"That's helping to attract businesses here. And along with the businesses comes growth," said Berry.
With the growth comes the need for more infrastructure. Roads that were fine in the past will likely become troublesome in the future.
Bob Colwell with the Texas Department of Transportation said they're doing what they can to prepare for the growth.
Colwell said they're using traffic models to try and help determine which projects to work on next.
"It's a model that tells us things like where projected growth is going. Where people are building, where housing is going, where students are going," said Colwell.
Colwell said right now, they're working on nine different projects designed to help ease traffic congestion.
College Station officials said the population could reach 100,000 residents as soon as December.
