British singer Adele is set to release her theme song for the coming James Bond movie “Skyfall” on Friday, but apparently the track has already leaked online.
Paul Epworth, who co-wrote and produced the track with Adele, tweeted “I hear a short excerpt of Skyfall leaked. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the whole thing because Adele’s performance is jaw dropping. ”
The excerpt from the song that surfaced online features dramatic pacing and swelling strings. Adele is backed on the track by a 77-piece orchestra, giving the production an elegant, retro feel, and offering a powerful musical foundation for her epic vocals.
The debut of the track had been timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the James Bond movies (the series kicked off with “Dr. No” in 1962). The song will have its official premiere on adele.tv and will be available as a download immediately afterwards.
According to a press release, Adele read the script for the film and signed up Epworth to work on the track with her. “There’s a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song. But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no brainer to do it in the end. It was also a lot of fun writing to a brief, something I’ve never done which made it exciting,” Adele said in a statement.
The movie is set to be released on Oct. 26 in the U.K. and Nov. 9 in the U.S.
A representative for Columbia Records, the label behind the track, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
