This week will mark an important moment in many University students’ lives.

Aggie Ring Day will take place Friday, November 9th at the Alumni Center.

Howdy and welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe, exciting Halloween last Wednesday. I know many children that had way more candy than should be legal. However, this week will mark an important moment in many Texas A&M University students’ lives.

This Friday, November 9th hundreds of Aggies will receive their Aggie rings. This prestigious event is known as Aggie Ring Day and takes place between 3 and 6 PM. Rings are presented every 15 minutes to students who meet the detailed requirements. I know these can be confusing, so for the freshman readers and curious members I will detail the requirements to an Aggie Ring. Students must have completed 90 hours before the application date. 45 of the 90 hours are to be completed at Texas A&M University while the remaining may be transferred. Students must also be in good academic standing with the University, meaning no academic probation, and they must then apply and be approved for their rings. The ceremony will take place at the Alumni Center so steer clear of the Alumni building on George Bush if you don’t want to be caught in the traffic.

I spoke with a recently transferred Aggie who was contemplating a ring. “I don’t think I want one” she stated. She is not alone, though I have known many students who felt this way, and now have a ring. It is a rite of passage one must earn, and by senior year, most students cannot wait for their own Aggie Ring Day.

The variations on the original antique ring have opened up options for all tastes. Selecting a metal, finish, and whether or not to include a diamond is often a dilemma. No matter the style, the Aggie ring is a unifying symbol that connects across generations, states, and countries.

Congratulations Aggies!
