Amidst the expected hype and media fanfare, Apple launched its new iPhone 5 in September. Alongside the launch of the handset itself came an update to iOS which is Apple’s mobile operating system. The iOS 6 update has so far been downloaded onto over 200 million devices including compatible iPhone, iPod and iPad models.
The update brings several improvements and new features to compatible devices, but there have been a number of issues reported with the software. In order to address these issues, Apple has released an OTA software update called iOS 6.0.1 to address these issues.
If you own a compatible Apple product, you can download the software update over the air or via iTunes. By downloading the software, some of the issues which will be fixed include problems with the keyboard on the iPhone 5, issues with the camera flash and problems with the reliability of Wi-Fi connectivity. AppleInsider has a full list of the fixes that the software update brings.
Apple Maps is one of the most widely publicised problems which people have experienced with iOS 6. This is an application which Apple has created to replace the long serving Google Maps app as the default mapping service of iOS. Unfortunately, the iOS 6.0.1 update does not address issues with Apple Maps, though Apple is working on a solution to fix problems with the application which include poor quality aerial imagery, inaccurate data and unreliable turn by turn navigation. The Apple iPhone 5 has had a number of problems reported with it aside from the iOS 6 software. These include issues with the camera which can capture a purple lighting effects in bright lighting conditions, as well as the aluminium material of its casing being particularly susceptible to scratches.
Although there have been a few problems reported with the iPhone 5, it has been one of the biggest success stories for Apple. Not only did it sell all two million pre-order allocated handsets within just hours of being made available, but it also went on to sell a whopping five million devices during its first weekend on the market.
