Spring Break is finally here! Only two more days until the students and faculty of College Station (which let’s face it is a huge bulk of the population) has an entire week off to do whatever they please. For lots of us that means vacation time! Yay! But with every positive unfortunately there comes a negative and the downside to vacation means you must travel to get there.

Let’s face it; traveling for the most part is a pain. It doesn’t matter if you’re taking a plane, car or train or whether you’re headed to the beach for some R&R, hitting the slopes for some fun in the snow, or exploring a new city full of adventures, there is always tedious planning, packing and preparation involved. Although I can’t make the process of packing, traveling and trying not to forget anything magically disappear, I can divulge a few helpful tips to making it easier!

Use Shower Caps to Cover Shoes

If you wrap your shoes in disposable shower caps to pack them in your bag or suitcase you solve multiple packing issues all at once. First, you’ll keep the dirt and germs from the bottom of your shoes away from your cleaned and neatly packed clothing. And second, your shoes will be kept together in a pair and not loosely rolling around in your bag, unless you’re dealing with men’s shoes which you would probably have to use one shower cap for each shoe. Either way your clothes are kept clean, and shower caps are extremely cheap and even free if you use the ones provided at hotels.

Roll Your Clothes Instead of Folding Them

Many seasoned travelers have found that rolling your clothes tends to help with packing tremendously. Rolled clothes take up less space than folded ones allowing for more garments (or as I like to call them outfit options) to fit into your suitcase! Tightly rolled clothing is also less likely to acquire deep set wrinkles that folded ones usually get from being smashed together so compactly.

Ask For a Free Charger

One of the most commonly forgotten items when packing for a trip is one’s phone charger. Even when scanning our rooms while double checking that we packed everything, we’re so used to seeing our chargers plugged in their normal outlet that we skim right over them. But luckily for us, this same problem happens to people in hotels re-packing for home. So if you realize once you’re already on your way to vacation that you’ve forgotten your phone charger, don’t run out and buy a new one just yet. Check with the front desk of your hotel and chances are you’ll end up with a new FREE charger!

Each one of these tips are extremely easy and cheap fixes to common traveling difficulties. Yet they really do make a big difference! So if your high-tailing it out of here for the next week or even going on vacation sometime in the later future, make sure and take advantage of these tips that make life a little bit more blissful!
