Bryan Premiere is pleased to announce the grand opening of Brazos Valley’s own IMAX® theatre, located at 950 N Earl Rudder Freeway, part of the Premiere Cinema entertainment complex. The massive IMAX auditorium has been under construction since February and marks a milestone in the growth of Bryan and College Station, and the only IMAX Theatre between Houston, San Antonio and Austin.
“IMAX truly is the greatest way ever to see a movie,” says Martin Watson, Premiere Director of Special Projects. “When the picture hits the screen in IMAX, it’s one of those ‘wow-moments’, you know you have arrived at someplace special.”
The full-size 75’ wide IMAX theatre is unmistakable, the screen is enormous at about 5 stories tall, and the auditorium features high risers, wide aisles and leather rocking chairs. IMAX is among the world’s best-known entertainment brands with 700 theatres in 52 countries. IMAX is the only format where the movie has been completely digitally-remastered frame-by-frame to improve clarity, contrast and sound, something no other theatre does. According to Mr. Watson, the IMAX undergoes an hour-long calibration routine every morning in which all systems are optimized for the day, ensuring a level of quality-control unrivalled anywhere. “It’s an experience you simply can’t get anywhere else, and you will see the difference,” he says.
This is one of four new IMAX auditoriums recently announced by Premiere’s CEO, Gary Moore, one of largest IMAX developers in the U.S. “We brought IMAX executives to the market a couple of years ago to show them around and get their thoughts,” said Moore. “Fortunately they liked what they saw and we got a thumbs-up from them, so to turn that concept into a reality for Bryan and College Station is a major accomplishment, I think audiences are going to fall in love with it.”
Moore didn’t stop with just the IMAX though, he also added a full-service STARBUCKS® in the concession stand, and opened an exciting new ‘vintage-Hollywood-themed’ restaurant/bar in the lobby called Backstage Bistro, which serves up 13 varieties of mouth-watering gourmet sliders, hand-made pizza, and features a great assortment of select beers & wines from around the globe. “It’s the ultimate meet and greet place before and after a movie,” he said Monday while standing at the granite countertop bar next to the fireplace. All drinks and food can be taken into the movie, and pagers are provided to guests who want their order brought to their theatre.
The public is invited to a free open house and IMAX movie Wednesday September 4th; IMAX’s “Space Station 3D” will be presented all day long with shows starting at 11:00, 12:15, 1:30, 2:45, 4:00, 5:15, 6:30, 7:45, 9:00 and 10:15. The movie has been widely-heralded as a remarkable achievement in film, and is the first movie ever to be shot in outer space.
The official grand opening kicks off Thursday evening with advance IMAX show of “Riddick” beginning at 8:30 and 12:00 midnight, with free limited-edited IMAX-commissioned “Riddick” poster to the first 350 in attendance.
Premiere will also feature a digitally-remastered release of “The Wizard of Oz” coming exclusively to IMAX Sept 20th, and a major rock event, “Metallica-Through The Never” Sept 27th. More Hollywood releases are scheduled in IMAX for the rest of the year, including “Hunger Games 2” in November and “Hobbit 2” in December. For showtimes and tickets, visit www.pccmovies.com.
“It’s a great time in Bryan-College Station’s history”, said Andrea Fletcher, who has been the Director of Premiere since it opened in 2006. ”We’re thrilled to offer the best movie-going experience in Texas.”
