The latest study done on what to do with the Astrodome is getting mixed reviews from Houstonians.

The idea would be to implode the vacant dome and build a parking lot at a cost of $29 million.

"It just brings back childhood memories,” said Felipe Alvarez. “I went to a lot of games there as a kid. It’s sad. If they do get rid of it or destroy it, I think maybe some type of museum."

Others said it was time for change.

"I'm not sure it could be used for anything in its current form without being torn down and starting over," said Marie Bielamowicz. "It seems like the land has a better use than the structure.

The study was commissioned by the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

"We said guys, go get the best experts in the business," said HLSR COO Leroy Shafer. "Tell us what it will really cost to do this. The plan that we have shows that it's cheaper than the others we've looked at and we know this one is real."

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and the county's commissioners received copies of the study on Monday.

A plan for the decaying dome has to be approved by next year before Houston's final proposal is submitted to host the Super Bowl in 2017.

The parking lot plan, according to the study, could be completed in 2-and-a-half years.
