Group to Set Guiness World Record for Longest Baseball Game

Mercy Project, a Bryan/College Station, Texas based non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating child slavery, will attempt to break the official Guinness World Record for longest baseball game this weekend. The game will begin at 7:30 pm on April 4th and end at 9:30 pm on April 6th and will take place at the American Momentum Bank Ballpark in Bryan, Texas.

Mercy Project’s Baseball Bash is an attempt to play a continuous game of baseball for 50 straight hours. The game will feature 56 players from around Texas that range in age from 17 to 50 plus. This is Mercy Project’s fourth world record attempt in as many years.

The ultimate goals of this event are to create awareness about the plight of child slaves around the world and raise money that will directly help children in slavery in Ghana, Africa. An estimated 7,000 Ghanaian children have been sold into slavery, most of them in the fishing industry. The money raised from this record attempt will build new farm fishing opportunities, enabling the communities in that region to be economically viable without slavery. This will lead to the voluntary release of slave children from these communities where they will then be reunited with their families. Organizers estimate this event will raise more than $40,000.

In September of 2012, Mercy Project rescued their first group of 24 slave children. As of this game, those children have been re-integrated into their families and are now attending school, many of them for the first time in their lives.
