College Station, TX - House of Hades is finally here!!!! *fangirlscream*

I know I’m a couple of weeks late with this, but cut me some slack. School has been blowing my mind this semester. But I finally found time to do some pleasure reading, and naturally the first thing I picked up was the newest installment of the Heroes of Olympus series. I’m actually also halfway through The Paris Wife by Paula McLain, so expect a review of that soon (I know *gasp* not a young adult novel). I knew I would speed through House of Hades though, so I didn’t feel bad setting Mr. and Mrs. Hemingway aside.

Anywho, I don’t want to give too much a way about House of Hades, or even the previous book, Mark of Athena for those who are behind, so I’m going to try to keep it pretty vague.

I loved this addition to this series, plain and simple, but not for the reasons that I loved all the other books. In my reading of it, House of Hades had a much different flow to it. Despite the fact that there was still a lot of action and a lot of things happening at any moment, the book as a whole seemed slower than the earlier additions. It’s hard to explain. I wasn’t bored at all. Although, my 16-year-old sister admitted to having trouble engaging with it.

Rick Riordan used this book to primarily develop the many characters, and he did a fantastic job of it. Seriously, for a literary nerd such as myself, it was so much fun to read. Children’s/Young Adult writers like Riordan do not often have their talents fully recognized, and Riordan really stretched his literary muscle in House of Hades. That being said, some of his typical young adult fans may not appreciate this book as much as I did. It’s a rather unfortunate truth.

In my opinion, Riordan did not disappoint with House of Hades, but I cannot guarantee that everyone who reads it will agree with me. If you are already invested in the characters and the story, it’s still great, but it may not end up being your favorite of the series.

P.S. The third book of the Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth came out yesterday! Hashtagfreakout. So everyone should definitely go check it out because I am thoroughly convinced that it is going to be awesome. Unless you haven’t read the other two; then you should read those first. Hashtagduh. Unfortunately, it will probably be several weeks before I get a chance to read it.
