(CBSSports.com) - When Jason Collins came out of the closet, many current and/or former professional athletes tweeted congratulations to him. Former All-Pro Packers safety LeRoy Butler was one of those athletes.
And it's cost him a job, apparently. Butler, we learned through several tweets from his account, was scheduled to speak at a church in Wisconsin. And they fired him because he congratulated Collins for revealing publicly that he was gay.
Collins coming out of the closet has resulted in kind statements about the athlete's bravery. It has also resulted in some more controversial statements from athletes and those in the media; some of these statements aren't exactly supportive of Collins.
Butler's "Congrats Jason Collins" tweet lost him a gig worth over $8,500 and the only way that he could get the gig back was to delete the tweet, publicly apologize and then "ask god forgiveness" -- that's a pretty specific and ridiculous set of demands.
