A massive sinkhole on Chicago's South Side has swallowed up three cars and injured one person amid fears that it could grow larger yet as rain continues to fall.

WGN's Nancy Loo tweeted a series of photos of the harrowing scene:

Three to five inches of rain fell overnight in the Chicago area, causing additional problems with flooding, road closures, school closures and public transportation delays on the Metra train system.

Sinkholes have been prominent in the news since a Florida man was swallowed by a sinkhole during sleep. Another sinkhole scare includes one on a golf course in Illinois.
