Midnight Yell Gets Another ESPN Spotlight

Posted: Wed 4:44 PM, Sep 05, 2012

Not only will ESPN be broadcasting the Aggie football game and the pregame festivities this Saturday, one of the "Worldwide Leader's" networks will be taking a live look at another A&M tradition.

According to A&M officials, portions of Midnight Yell will air during ESPNU's new late night show, UNITE. It will give viewers a first-hand look at the tradition recently featured by ESPN in its new commercial for the "College GameDay" pregame show.

"It's generated a lot of buzz and intrigue about Texas A&M, and we're really excited about the opportunity to showcase one of our most unique and cherished traditions here at Texas A&M," said Jason Cook, A&M's vice president for marketing and communications.

According to the university, the original yell practices date back 99 years, but the pre-game rituals began in 1931.

The College GameDay broadcast will be live from Simpson Drill Field starting at 8:00 a.m. Saturday on ESPNU, then switching to ESPN at 9:00 a.m. for the next two hours. The game against Florida -- A&M's first in the Southeastern Conference -- kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN.
