More new development is coming to Bryan, including the world's largest retailer.
Walmart has closed on property near the corner of FM 2818 (Harvey Mitchell Parkway) and West Villa Maria Road, according to the City of Bryan. The super Walmart facility will be 150,000 square feet and is slated to open in late 2013 or early 2014.
The city says Walmart purchased 21 of 50 acres on the property. More retail space will be available on that land, which previously was home to the now-closed Texas Hall of Fame dance hall.
"We are excited about this development, which is our first large retail development on the west side of the community," Bryan Mayor Jason Bienski said in a statement. "We believe this project will be a catalyst to complement and enhance the growth of the emerging biocorridor, the Health Science Center complex, Traditions and other residential development in this area. Residents of this area have long expressed a desire for a full service grocery store and other retail opportunities. The City is excited to have been a part in helping this become a reality."
Bryan and College Station each have one Walmart location currently.
