COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Department of Health & Kinesiology at Texas A&M University is excited to announce that super-agent Leigh Steinberg will be speaking on campus Friday, February 28.
Forbes has called Steinberg “the greatest sports agent in history.” He has negotiated contracts in excess of $2 billion during his career. He has represented many of the most successful professional athletes and coaches in football, basketball, baseball, hockey, boxing and golf, including over sixty first round picks in the NFL draft, and the No. 1 pick eight times.
According to SI.com, at one time he represented half of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL, including Troy Aikman of the Dallas Cowboys and Warren Moon of the Houston Oilers. He has also facilitated his clients donating more than $600 million to various charities around the world.
Steinberg is currently touring to promote his book, The Agent: My 40-Year Career Making Deals and Changing the Game. The book details his rise into agent fame, how he dominated the agent business, and how he overcame a series of high-profile struggles to regain his sobriety and launch his comeback. As Kirkus Book Reviews states: “NFL crazies will eat this (book) like snack food.”
According to Paul Batista, Division Chair of Sport Management, “we are thrilled that Leigh will be sharing his story with our students, and providing them insight into the fascinating world of representing professional athletes. His client list is a ‘who’s who’ of professional athletes. As the real-life inspiration for the movie ‘Jerry Maguire,’ his story is compelling and will provide the students with a window into the world of high-stakes negotiations in professional sports.”
Steinberg will be speaking on Friday, February 28 from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Blocker Building room 102, across from the Northside Garage on the Texas A&M campus. Students and the public are cordially invited to attend the event. Admission is free.
