NEW CANEY -- A registered sex offender is back behind bars after investigators say he tried to lure a 15-year-old girl on Facebook. Montgomery County Precinct 4 says the 35-year-old was trying to have sex with the teenager.

What Stanley Haney didn’t know is that deputies took over the girl’s Facebook account. The teen told her parents, and they quickly alerted authorities.

Deputies gathered their evidence online over the course of several explicit conversations.

Haney showed up to a convenience store in Patton Village on Tuesday afternoon, and allegedly had intentions of a sexual encounter with the girl.

Instead, he was greeted by armed deputies.

Deputies seized a box of condoms from Haney’s truck and arrested him on the spot.

“Mr. Haney is the type of person that we warn our children about every day,” said Constable Kenneth Hayden with Montgomery County Precinct 4. “He is the type of person that preys on young children in our community, and he’s the type of person that will physically carry out an act to get his hands on your children.”

Investigators said Haney has also recently been communicating with an undercover deputy posing as a 13-year-old girl.

On Tuesday night, authorities in Liberty County executed a search warrant on Haney’s Cleveland home.

Two of Haney’s brothers were arrested during the raid for marijuana possession. Haney apparently lives at the home with his brothers, his parents and his 7-year-old daughter.

Neighbors on the street were alarmed by the details coming from authorities.

“[It’s] disgust. It’s scary. I don’t want my little brother playing around with people that are doing that to people,” said neighbor Angela Byers.

Haney is charged with two counts of solicitation of a minor. Investigators are trying to find out whether they can charge him with anything else.

“We are concerned for our children in this community,” said Constable John Joslin with Liberty County Precinct 6.

Detectives seized data from Haney’s computer and will be analyzing that data in the days to come.

Haney was convicted of sexual abuse of a child in 2000.
Deputies reportedly found condoms inside his truck.

The suspect is a registered sex offender and was being monitored by authorities. Records show he was convicted of sexual assault of a child back in 2000.
