(Billboard)- Rick Ross' car was the target of a barrage of bullets Monday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., causing the rapper to crash his Rolls-Royce into an apartment building while trying to flee, police told the Miami Herald.

Neither Ross or his passenger, Shateria L. Moragne-el, 28, were hurt. The shooter or shooters completely missed the car, police say, but they did hit the diner where Ross had been celebrating his 37th birthday earlier.

Local business owners say the incident occurred around 5 a.m. "I was sound asleep and I heard boom-boom-boom and I ran out said, 'Did you hear that?'" Carol Touchstone, who owns a boutique down the block, told the Herald.

Touchstone's business partner George Maznicki said he heard about 10 shots from what he described as a high-powered rifle.

A representative for Ross has not responded to Billboard's request for comment at press time.

Last month, Ross cancelled a handful of tour dates with his Maybach Music Group collective due to an "apparent lack of organization and communication on the party of the tour promoter." However, reports claimed that the dates were scrapped due to threats against Ross from the Gangster Disciples street gang.

Ross recently announced his sixth studio album will be titled "Mastermind." In December, he moved the label he founded, Maybach Music Group, from Warner Bros. to Atlantic Records.
